Healing from Religion Support Group

Creating space for your story.

Questioning, leaving, or healing from religion can be one of the loneliest experiences there is — especially when the people around you don't understand. This group is a place to be heard by people who do.

What to Expect

  • Small group size to support real connection.
  • A structured flow — grounding at the beginning and a gentle transition at the end.
  • Gently timed shares so everyone has equal space to speak and be heard.
  • Clear boundaries so everyone can own their experience without advice-giving or judgment.
  • A skilled moderator to guide discussion, hold safety, and support honest dialogue.
  • Come as often as you can — book one group at a time, and come to the dates that work for you.
  • A relaxed, private space — unhurried, low-key, and nothing like a church basement.

Is This For You?

This group is for you if…

  • You're deconstructing, deconverting, or recovering from a high-control or harmful religion — whether you're still in it or you've left
  • You're looking to connect with others who truly get it
  • Validation and support would be meaningful to you
  • You're ready to be affirming and open to experiences different from your own

This is not…

  • Group therapy — there's no diagnosis or treatment
  • A space to defend, debate, or recruit for any religion
  • A place that will push you toward any belief — including none
  • A replacement for individual therapy or crisis care
Jennifer Bartley, LMFT — facilitator and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in religious trauma

About the Facilitator

Jennifer Bartley, LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in religious trauma, faith deconstruction, and recovery from high-control religion.

She trained with Marlene Winell, PhD — author of Leaving the Fold and the psychologist who named Religious Trauma Syndrome — and has led recovery support groups under her model.

She facilitates this group as a space for connection and healing — not as therapy, but with the care and steadiness of someone who does this work every day.
